Everton must go all out for ‘phenomenal’ star as his club bid £34m for his replacement, free to leave

Brighton’s Move for Kostoulas Could Pave the Way for Everton to Land Evan Ferguson

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly making a bold move to sign Greek teenage star Charalampos Kostoulas, tabling a £34 million bid for the highly rated Olympiacos talent. This potential signing could trigger a reshuffle in Brighton’s forward line—opening the door for Evan Ferguson to make a fresh start at Everton as they enter a new chapter at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees are set to extend their Premier League tenure despite a shaky start last season under Sean Dyche, where they sat just one point above the relegation zone in mid-January following a defeat to Aston Villa at Goodison Park. However, David Moyes’ return proved pivotal—Everton lost just three of their remaining matches, and all of those were against teams that finished in the top four.

Financial Freedom and Forward Focus for Everton

This summer, Everton are expected to benefit from eased Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), giving them more financial leeway to strengthen their squad. With their attack having underperformed last season—scoring fewer goals than all but the bottom three—revamping the forward line is a priority.

Moyes is likely to target attacking reinforcements, especially with Beto linked to Leeds United and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation unresolved, amid ongoing interest from clubs like Newcastle United.

Ferguson Falling Out of Favour at Brighton

With Brighton now in discussions for Kostoulas, Ferguson could be pushed further down the pecking order behind Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck, and Georginio Rutter. This scenario may open the door for a move to Merseyside.

Ferguson made waves during the 2022/23 season, netting six goals in just 19 Premier League appearances as an 18-year-old. He matched that goal tally last season, albeit across more matches. However, the appointment of Fabian Hürzeler has seen his opportunities diminish—just one league start and a single goal under the German boss. A difficult loan spell at West Ham followed, where Ferguson failed to score in eight appearances.

A Proven Path for Players in Need of Revival

Everton could be the ideal destination for Ferguson, with a strong track record of rejuvenating out-of-favour players. Moyes, in particular, has a history of getting the best out of strikers, including Yakubu, Louis Saha, and Andy Johnson during his previous tenure at the club.

Goodison Park has also welcomed several players seeking a fresh start, such as Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski—both of whom arrived from relegated Burnley and became key squad members. Others like Demarai Gray and James Rodriguez also found success on Merseyside, with only Dele Alli struggling to make an impact. Ferguson could be the latest to benefit from a change of scenery, reigniting the promise that once had him linked with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham.
