Leeds United’s Interest in Jon Rowe Set to End in Disappointment as Marseille Close in on Norwich City Attacker

August 20, 2024

Leeds United’s hopes of signing Norwich City attacker Jon Rowe appear to be fading after Marseille submitted a third offer for the 21-year-old, according to reports.

The Ligue 1 club’s latest bid includes an initial loan deal with a future obligation to buy Rowe for £13.5 million, as reported by The Telegraph. While Norwich are yet to agree to the terms, Marseille are confident of securing the England Under-21 international before the end of the summer transfer window.

Rowe has been absent from Norwich’s season opener against Oxford United and has faced criticism from new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who is keen for the player to move on. With Leeds’ valuation falling short of Norwich’s expectations, Marseille have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the talented youngster.

Leeds, meanwhile, are still searching for a replacement for Championship Player of the Year Crysencio Summerville, who joined West Ham United earlier this month. The Whites are also seeking a player similar to Georginio Rutter, whose £40 million relegation exit clause was triggered by Brighton and Hove Albion.

The transfer saga has left Leeds fans wondering if they will miss out on another key target, with Marseille’s persistence likely to pay off in the coming days.
