Former Newcastle United Wonderkid Elias Sorensen Set for English Football Return

Newcastle United fans, remember the name Elias Sorensen? The Danish forward was once hailed as a wonderkid at St. James’ Park, scoring 20 goals in 24 appearances for the under-23s during the 2018/19 season. His impressive form had many believing he was destined for greatness, and a first-team breakthrough seemed inevitable.

However, things didn’t quite go as planned. Sorensen struggled to replicate his form during loan spells with Blackpool, Carlisle United, and Almere City, and eventually found himself surplus to requirements at Newcastle. In 2021, he made the move to Danish side Esbjerg, hoping to revive his career.

But, fast forward to the present, and Sorensen is now poised for a second crack at English football! The 24-year-old has been in scintillating form in Denmark, bagging 26 goals and 15 assists last season to help Esbjerg secure promotion to the second tier. His resurgence has caught the attention of Portsmouth, who has had a bid of between £300,000-£400,000 accepted to bring him back to English shores.

Sorensen’s return to English football is a testament to his hard work and determination. He’s spoken publicly about the challenges he faced during his time away from Newcastle, but also about his desire to prove himself in the English game.

“I’ve learned a lot from my experiences, both good and bad,” Sorensen said in a recent interview. “I’m hungrier than ever to succeed, and I’m excited about the opportunity to come back to England and show what I can do.”

Portsmouth fans will be eager to see what Sorensen can bring to the table. With his pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability, he could be a valuable addition to the squad. And who knows, maybe this second chance will be the catalyst for Sorensen to finally fulfill his potential and make a name for himself in English football.

But what about Newcastle United? Could Sorensen’s return to English football lead to a potential reunion with his former club? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – the Magpies will be keeping a close eye on his progress.

“Elias was a talented young player during his time at Newcastle, and it’s great to see him doing well in Denmark,” said a Newcastle United source. “We’ll be monitoring his situation, and who knows what the future holds?”

For now, Sorensen is focused on making a success of his move to Portsmouth. With his sights set on helping the club establish themselves in the Championship, he’s ready to put in the hard work and prove himself all over again.

“I’m excited to get started and show the Portsmouth fans what I’m capable of,” Sorensen said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get going.”
