Roberto De Zerbi was always expected to reshape Tottenham’s squad this summer, and the goalkeeping unit was never going to be overlooked.
Since arriving from Empoli in June 2023 for a reported €19 million (£16.3 million), Guglielmo Vicario has held down the No. 1 spot. However, the Italian international is now being tipped for a summer exit, with several Serie A clubs showing interest.
Under De Zerbi, Antonin Kinsky is poised to take over as first-choice keeper, thanks to his composure with the ball at his feet and excellent shot-stopping ability.
The 23-year-old made a strong impression late last season, stepping in while Vicario recovered from hernia surgery, and his performances played a key role in keeping Spurs in the Premier League.
Plans for the 2026/27 season moved forward this week when Tottenham confirmed the free-agent signing of Martin Dubravka from Burnley. The 37-year-old will officially join the Lilywhites on July 1 after his contract at Turf Moor ends, becoming the club’s fourth summer arrival.
Dubravka featured 35 times for Burnley during their relegated 2025/26 campaign and is expected to serve as backup to Kinsky, with homegrown keeper Brandon Austin likely settling in as the third-choice option. The club also has young prospects Luca Gunter, Sam Archer, and Aaron Maguire in the pipeline.
With 60 Slovakia caps to his name, Dubravka brings valuable experience to both the squad and the goalkeeper group.
On paper, the move makes clear sense—sporting director Johan Lange can now channel any transfer fee from Vicario’s departure toward strengthening other areas. According to Transfermarkt, the Italian is currently valued at €18 million (£15.5 million).
Tottenham have already brought in Andy Robertson and Marco Senesi on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively, and signed Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52 million.
But business isn’t expected to stop there, which is why landing Dubravka on a free and cashing in on Vicario could prove to be a smart piece of maneuvering.
After finishing 17th in each of the last two seasons, Spurs are determined to significantly upgrade their starting XI this summer. It’s understood the club has held talks with Newcastle United regarding a potential £100 million move for Sandro Tonali. West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes is also on the radar, while Manchester City’s Savinho is being eyed to bolster the attack.
