Former Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has commented on the potential signing of goalkeeper James Trafford, saying that the 22-year-old would be a great addition to the Magpies. Trafford has reportedly agreed personal terms with Newcastle United and is expected to join the club soon.
“James Trafford is a top-class goalkeeper who has shown his skills in the Championship,” Shearer said. “He’s got the potential to be a top-class goalkeeper for Newcastle United, and I think he’d be a great signing for the club.”
Shearer also poked fun at Trafford’s recent social media mistake, where he wrote “Haway” instead of the Geordie phrase “Howay”. “I think James might need to get used to the Geordie way of speaking,” Shearer joked. “But seriously, he’s a talented goalkeeper who will bring competition to the goalkeeping position.”
Negotiations between Newcastle United and Burnley have stalled slightly due to a valuation gap, with Burnley demanding £40 million and Newcastle offering £30 million. However, Shearer believes that Trafford’s talent and potential make him worth the investment. “If Newcastle can get the deal done, I think they’ll be getting a top-class goalkeeper who will serve them well for years to come.”
