‘I’m sure…’ – Ex-Pgmol chief shares what’ll likely happen next as Rangers hit back at SFA

Rangers End Season with Controversial Draw Against Hibernian

Rangers closed out their 2024–25 campaign with a 2-2 draw at Easter Road against Hibernian, but the aftermath of the match is far from over.

The match sparked controversy when Nico Raskin had a second goal ruled out in contentious circumstances, which would have doubled Rangers’ lead following Cyriel Dessers’ opener. With no goal-line technology available, officials determined that the ball had not fully crossed the line—a decision that left Raskin and his teammates visibly frustrated.

To compound Rangers’ frustration, Kieron Bowie quickly equalised for Hibernian. Although Raskin and Martin Boyle each added goals later in the match, the decision surrounding the disallowed goal remains a major talking point.

Corruption Allegation Sparks SFA Investigation

Rangers TV pundit John Brown ignited further controversy by accusing the Scottish FA (SFA) of “corruption” live on air, echoing the sentiments of many Rangers supporters. Unsurprisingly, these remarks have prompted disciplinary interest from the SFA, with widespread reports on Monday (19 May) confirming an active investigation into the matter.

Rangers responded quickly, with journalist Chris Jack sharing a club statement on X, in which the club made it clear they would vigorously defend themselves and Brown if any charges are brought.

Keith Hackett Condemns Brown’s Comments

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett criticized Brown’s remarks, calling them “unacceptable” and insisting that questioning the integrity of match officials cannot be tolerated.

“The remark was unacceptable – you cannot question the integrity of match officials,” Hackett told Ibrox News. He also highlighted the ongoing issue of the Scottish Premiership not using goal-line technology, describing the reliance on assistant referees as “frankly unacceptable.”

Despite Rangers’ pushback, Hackett expects the SFA to move forward with disciplinary proceedings. “The SFA has a duty to uphold the integrity of the competition, regardless of how long the process may take,” he added.

Final League Standings:

1. Celtic – 92 pts

2. Rangers – 75 pts

3. Hibernian – 58 pts

4. Dundee United – 53 pts
