Rangers’ 2024/25 Season Ends in Disappointment After Draw at Easter Road

Rangers’ 2024/25 campaign came to a close on Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road — a result that summed up a frustrating season for the Glasgow side.

For many within the squad, it was likely their final outing in Rangers colours. Barry Ferguson appears set to depart ahead of the expected 49ers takeover, with Davide Ancelotti already being linked to the managerial post.

The result against Hibs was a bitter pill to swallow and underscored the urgent need for change at Ibrox.

Michael Stewart Criticises Barron for Defensive Error

Pundit Michael Stewart has singled out Connor Barron for his poor defending in the lead-up to Hibernian’s second goal — a lapse that ultimately cost Rangers all three points.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene (17 May), Stewart said:
ā€œRangers simply don’t defend this well enough. Nicky Cadden has the best delivery in the country, bar none. Tavernier gets dragged out of position, and Connor Barron is far too slow — you can’t just stop five yards away, you have to close him down.ā€

Barron has featured regularly this season, making 46 appearances, but has failed to register a single goal and only contributed two assists.

A Full Rebuild Required at Ibrox

Rangers end the season without silverware and unable to mount a serious challenge to rivals Celtic. Saturday’s result was emblematic of their struggles, surrendering the lead twice to a Hibs side that exposed familiar defensive frailties.

Several Rangers players came under fire for their performance, and it’s clear that many are not meeting the club’s standards.

Winning just two of their final seven league games is unacceptable for a club of Rangers’ stature. To mount a credible title challenge next season, a complete overhaul is needed — including some tough but necessary departures.

The incoming manager, possibly appointed under the 49ers’ new regime, must take decisive action. Too many players are underperforming, and the club must bring in higher-quality replacements to return to winning ways.
