Leeds United could be about to break their club transfer record, and in what could be their first summer signing.
Leeds United could be about to set the bar high ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens on June 1st for 10 days, before closing for six days, and then opening back up for the summer.
Daniel Farke is armed with a £100million transfer kitty at Leeds United following the club’s promotion to the Premier League and it looks like he intends on spending all of that money, with his side in quite desperate need of additions.
Across the pitch there’s gaps in the side. But it looks like it’s in defence where Farke could spend nearly £40million of that £100million, breaking the Leeds United club transfer record which stands at £35.5million: the fee Leeds paid for Georginio Rutter in 2023.
Leeds United ready to submit £38m bid for Leonardo Balerdi
Recent reports have revealed that Marseille and Argentina centre-back Leonardo Balerdi is a target for Leeds United this summer. The 26-year-old former Borussia Dortmund man has featured 25 times in Ligue 1 this season and he’s impressed for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, leading to this growing transfer interest.
Roma are also interested in Balerdi but an emerging report from French outlet Foot Mercato has revealed that it’s Leeds United who look set to submit the opening offer, writing that Farke’s side ‘will soon submit an offer’ for Balerdi.
The same report adds that Marseille want a fee of €45million (£38.13million) for Balerdi this summer, which would in fact make him Leeds United’s record signing.
Leonardo Balerdi’s stance on summer move to Leeds United revealed
This one could quickly become costly for Farke and Leeds United. It’s been reported that the Whites would only want to pay £20million for Balerdi and so this £38million valuation could blow them out the water.
But suggestions that Leeds are read to open the bidding suggests otherwise. And it comes just hours after news that Balerdi favours a move to Leeds United this summer, instead of a possible move to Serie A.
But again, Farke really needs to be cautious with his spending this summer. This much money on Balerdi would leave Farke will little to spend on the rest of the team and there remains a lot of work to be done.
Nonetheless, Balerdi to Leeds United would be a very exciting move.
