Leeds United are looking to tackle the Premier League with high ambition under the 49ers, one aspect of that being a stadium expansion at Elland Road.
Leeds blew Stoke City away with a 6-0 win to tee up automatic promotion on Monday, confirmed by Sheffield United losing at Burnley.
With Premier League football now officially on the horizon for the Whites, plans are going to be pushed through quickly to try help the club stick the landing, unlike the six promoted clubs that came before them.
Leeds United due to announce Elland Road expansion plans imminently
One by-product of Leeds securing their return to the top flight is that the 49ers can now breathe easy on their plans to expand the stadium’s capacity.
It was confirmed early this season that West Stand and North Stand expansions will take Elland Road eventually up to around 53,000 once completed, due to be undertaken at the end of this season.
Now, with promotion sealed, the Daily Mail have reported that these plans are due to be accelerated very soon:
“Meanwhile, the plans to expand Elland Road to a capacity of 56,500 will begin imminently, with the executive board of Leeds City Council set to meet on Wednesday.
“Either way, the attention on this famous club will now crank up a notch. The next fortnight is for celebration, with an open-top bus parade expected.”
Leeds United need a stadium capacity that can match the elite in England
Bridging the gap to the sides in the top half of the Premier League looks a nigh on impossible taks for promoted sides at the moment.
The only way to get up to that level is to find a way to match their revenue streams, and for Leeds, that would be helped by a massive stadium expansion.
Given the ground will hold up to 53,000 when completed, it means we will be able to rival some of the biggest clubs around for matchday revenue.
