3/10, 4/10… – How French newspaper L’Equipe rated Aston Villa players

Aston Villa’s big away day in Paris didn’t go exactly how the club will have hoped for, although all hope isn’t lost ahead of the second leg of the Champions League tie.

Unai Emery’s side even managed to take the lead via Morgan Rogers, but Luis Enrique’s slick PSG – fresh off the back of winning the Ligue 1 title – got into their routine and managed to overcome Aston Villa’s early advantage.

PSG are now clear favourites to progress to the semi-finals of UEFA’s elite European competition, but there’s no way Emery will have given up and his team have no reason to.

They put on a reasonable show in Paris and will hope to reverse the scoreline when PSG travel to Birmingham.

French newspaper L’Equipe is notoriously harsh when it comes to player ratings, not just giving out a 7 for a so-so performance. Ratings need to be earned, and their judgements following Wednesday’s match are a fresh example of that.

It’s worth noting that PSG’s highest rated player, Désiré Doué, got 8/10.

Aston Villa’s lowest rated performers were Matty Cash, Jacob Ramsey and manager Unai Emery, who were all given 3/10.

Marcus Rashford, John McGinn and Erzi Konsa got 4/10.

The rest got 5/10, apart from Lucas Digne and Morgan Rogers, who were given 6/10.
