‘Unfortunate’ – BBC pundit gutted for Leeds ace after what happened to him last night

Karl Darlow’s Battle for Game Time at Leeds

Karl Darlow has found it difficult to displace Illan Meslier as Leeds United’s first-choice goalkeeper this season. The Welsh shot-stopper has made just three appearances across all competitions, totaling 270 minutes, as the Whites push for Premier League promotion.

Despite his limited club minutes, Darlow remains a key figure for Wales, having started four of their last seven matches.

Darlow Caught in ‘Unfortunate’ Moment for Wales

Darlow started in Wales’ 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan but was unable to keep out an Askhat Tagybergan penalty. BBC pundit and former Wales international Nia Jones expressed sympathy for him on BBC MOTD Wales (20:17 pm), stating:

“That is so unfortunate. Karl Darlow is such a big presence in that goal that he doesn’t go the right way but still almost keeps it out.”

Leeds United Should Hold onto Darlow

Earlier in the season, some fans called for Darlow to replace Meslier after the Frenchman’s high-profile errors. The experienced goalkeeper, who previously won the Championship title in 2016/17 and played in the Premier League with Newcastle, seemed a viable alternative.

However, manager Daniel Farke has remained loyal to Meslier, leaving Darlow without a league appearance and restricting him to cup competitions.

With Leeds reportedly interested in Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, Meslier might not be willing to settle for a backup role and could seek a move elsewhere. If that happens, retaining Darlow as an experienced deputy would be a sensible decision, providing reliable cover in case of injury or loss of form.

Even if Leeds continue with Meslier, keeping Darlow at Elland Road could prove beneficial. His presence not only ensures competition for the starting spot but also offers the team stability when needed.
