‘That is the dream’ – Burnley star makes Leeds promotion admission

Leeds United are embroiled in a fierce promotion battle with Sheffield United and Burnley as the Championship season nears its conclusion.

The Whites currently sit atop the second tier, but they are level on points with the Blades and only two points ahead of the Clarets.

Connor Roberts Shares Thoughts on Leeds’ Promotion Bid

Roberts, who played for Leeds last season and made 14 Championship appearances, saw the team fall just short of promotion.

Now a key figure for Scott Parker’s Burnley side, the 29-year-old has featured in 33 league matches this season, helping the team maintain a formidable defensive record with just 11 goals conceded.

The Wales international has admitted he would prefer to see Chris Wilder’s side miss out on automatic promotion due to his connection with Leeds.

Speaking to Burnley Express (21 March), Roberts said:

> “If I’m being honest, I would love for them to get promoted and us to get promoted as well. That is the dream when the whistle goes on that last game of the season.”

Leeds Must Maintain Peak Performance

Daniel Farke must ensure his team remains in top form during the final stretch of the season, or they risk settling for a playoff spot—a scenario that has historically not favored them.

Leeds have never secured promotion via the playoffs, suffering a painful defeat to Southampton in last season’s final despite finishing with 90 points.

Leeds’ Playoff Final Record:

2023/24 – Lost 1-0 vs Southampton

2007/08 – Lost 1-0 vs Doncaster

2005/06 – Lost 3-0 vs Watford

1986/87 – Lost 3-2 on aggregate vs Charlton

To avoid another heartbreak, Leeds must improve their away form in the final weeks of the campaign, as it has been significantly weaker than their performances at Elland Road.

They have dropped points in 11 away games (eight draws, three losses) compared to just four at home (three draws, one loss).

With four crucial away matches remaining, Farke’s side must overcome their struggles on the road to fend off Sheffield United and Burnley. If not, they risk experiencing the same disappointment as last season.
