Everton are reportedly planning a summer move for Rangers forward Hamza Igamane, with new reports indicating they will face competition from two other clubs in the race to secure his signature.
The 22-year-old joined Rangers from Moroccan club FAR Rabat for a mere £2.5m last summer, quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising talents in the Scottish Premiership.
Igamane has scored 13 goals in 36 appearances for Rangers this season, including four in the Europa League, and played a key role in helping the team reach the quarter-finals.
In January, we exclusively revealed Everton’s interest in Igamane, and recent reports confirm that the club is plotting a summer bid, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future.
Football Insider reports that there is a “real possibility” Everton could secure Igamane’s services this summer, but they will face competition from Sevilla and Marseille.
The report also mentions that Everton made an attempt to sign Igamane in January, but Rangers were “reluctant to sell,” and this stance is unlikely to change ahead of the summer, especially with the impending 49ers takeover. However, it’s understood that Rangers would consider a sale if the price is right.
Igamane is under contract with Rangers until 2029, and it seems unlikely that the 49ers would want to sell one of their star players as one of their first actions. However, if an acceptable offer comes in, they could be open to a sale.
Tottenham are also reportedly keeping an eye on Igamane. TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Fraser Fletcher, exclusively revealed that Rangers are willing to sell Igamane for £20m this summer, despite the pending takeover. Rangers’ transfer strategy is to buy emerging talents at a low cost and sell them for a substantial profit, and Igamane’s stock has significantly risen since his move to Ibrox. As a result, a £20m transfer could be on the cards.
Both Everton and Tottenham have had scouts watch Igamane on several occasions this season and could make bids in the coming months.
With Calvert-Lewin’s contract expiring this summer, Everton may need to sign a new striker, and David Moyes will need to find a replacement if the England forward doesn’t sign an extension. Furthermore, it’s increasingly unlikely that Everton will make Armando Broja’s loan move from Chelsea permanent, given his struggles with injuries.
As a result, securing a new centre-forward is a top priority for Everton this summer, and while their search is still in the early stages, TEAMtalk can confirm Igamane is firmly on their radar.
