Lineker wowed by ‘extraordinary’ Everton info on MOTD after draw v Wolves

Everton have moved closer to securing Premier League safety, earning a third consecutive draw over the weekend against Wolves.

Although they gave up a lead given to them by Jack Harrison, who impressed at Molineux, the Toffees will be content with the point against Vitor Pereira’s side, who are fighting for survival.

Thanks to a revitalized run since David Moyes’ return to Goodison Park, Everton have now distanced themselves from the relegation battle that Wolves are currently enduring.

Gary Lineker surprised by Moyes stat

Everton will be relatively satisfied with the single point from their trip to Wolverhampton on Saturday (8 March), especially after opening the scoring through Harrison, which should boost his personal confidence.

The Toffees missed several opportunities, including a late chance for Beto, who was denied by a superb low diving save from Jose Sa.

However, Moyes’ team did enough to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches, a stat that BBC Match of the Day host Lineker highlighted on 8 March.

“David Moyes is now unbeaten in eight at Everton,” Lineker told panellists Joe Hart and Micah Richards. “Do you know the last time Moyes managed to do that? It was during his first stint at Everton. It’s an extraordinary run.”

Moyes’ previous 11-year tenure was marked by European qualifications, cup finals, and Everton’s reputation as a formidable force—an aura that has been briefly rekindled among supporters ahead of a promising summer.

Since Moyes’ return, Everton haven’t lost in the league, with their only defeat under his management being a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in January, which had raised relegation concerns. They are also unbeaten in away matches under Moyes in all competitions.

Everton’s final five matches at Goodison Park

Everton’s season has turned around since the new regime took charge, with The Friedkin Group moving quickly to shape the club’s long-term vision.

Moyes is focused not only on ensuring Everton’s Premier League survival but also on taking them back to previous heights, competing for major silverware.

Meanwhile, the excitement among fans is growing as the final games at Goodison Park approach before it closes its doors for good.

Everton – Remaining Goodison fixtures:

15 March: West Ham United

5 April: Arsenal

19 April: Manchester City

3 May: Ipswich Town

18 May: Southampton (Everton’s farewell match at Goodison)

With just five matches remaining at Goodison, Everton faces tough challenges, including Arsenal and Manchester City. Their next home game is against West Ham United on Saturday (15 March), with both teams currently level on points. However, Moyes’ former club, West Ham, still has a game against Newcastle United on Monday.
