Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has made the right decision to reduce his risk of injury, according to Dr. Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert is commenting on an interview with the Belgian player, where he discussed the steps he’s taken behind the scenes to improve his fitness.
Raskin focused particularly on losing weight, recognizing the significant benefits this has at the elite level.
Nicolas Raskin has become a key player for Rangers
In an interview with The Scotsman back in December, the 24-year-old acknowledged his concerning injury record at the club.
This prompted him to alter his diet, leading to weight loss.
Discussing this, Dr. Brar, a physical therapist and sports scientist, told Ibrox News: “He’s talking about using nutrition to reduce his weight, which can lessen the stress on joints, tendons, and other areas.
“For example, certain muscles in the lower body can experience up to nine times your body weight when running, so even a modest weight loss can have a significant effect.
“It’s hard to say if other injury-prone players are doing the same, but it’s certainly an important tool that most top clubs provide and sometimes require of their players.
“I think it was the right decision for him, and it seems to have benefited him.”
Barry Ferguson will be pleased with Nicolas Raskin’s professionalism
It’s rare for players to recognize a pattern in their fitness and take proactive steps to address it.
Although Barry Ferguson wasn’t present when Raskin made these changes, he will undoubtedly appreciate his professionalism.
