Nottingham Forest enjoyed a far less chaotic summer transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and the team have reaped the rewards on the pitch.
The Reds added 11 new players with two of them – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – heading off to Olympiacos for season-long loan deals ahead of joining Forest next summer.
Nikola Milenkovic and Elliot Anderson have been the pick of the summer signings this season. Both have made a huge impact and ultimately it was a case of quality over quantity.
As always, however, there were some players who didn’t get over the line from a Forest perspective. A number of strikers chose not to sign for the club and thankfully Chris Wood has ensured that hasn’t become an issue.
Santiago Gimenez was one player who rejected Forest. He was the most high-profile player to turn the club down but ultimately, he wasn’t the only player who made the particular choice.
Agent of Edoardo Bove explains why he rejected Nottingham Forest
Forest were hell bent on signing a new midfielder during the transfer window in the summer, especially when Danilo broke his ankle on the opening day of the season.
James Ward-Prowse eventually signed and Anderson has nailed down a spot in the team from that area of the pitch but Roma midfielder was seemingly set with a move to Forest at one point.
However, things went awry and now Bove’s agent Diego Tavano has told Giallo Rossi exactly why the move to Forest didn’t go through in the end.
He said: “We found ourselves with our backs to the wall when we faced with the possibility of moving to Nottingham Forest, with a possible loan move to Olympiacos, given that the owner is the same. It wasn’t an option that convinced us.
“Fiorentina was the right destination, so much so that I’d been in contact with the general manager for weeks. We pushed in that direction, and friction arose.
“He determinedly chose Fiorentina. And in hindsight we were right.”
Bove will return to football in June
Back in December, Bove suffered a heart scare whilst on the pitch in a moment that proved terrible for all involved and we sincerely hope that he will be on the mend soon and come back from the ordeal.
Bove is doing well right now. It’s believed that he will be back available to play in June just in time for pre-season training, which will start the following month and Fiorentina will be monitoring him closely.
The 22-year-old had made a solid start to the campaign. He scored a single goal and registered four assists before being struck down with his heart problem and he will be desperate to get back on the pitch.
Clearly heading out to Olympiacos for a year on loan first isn’t for every player and perhaps that’s something that Forest will have to continue to monitor closely whilst Evangelos Marinakis is overseeing things.
