Aston Villa must sell £100,000-p/w star after what happened v Chelsea, Emery can’t rely on him

Tyrone Mings’ injury problems continued as he was forced to leave the pitch in Aston Villa’s 2-1 comeback win over Chelsea. Unai Emery now faces the reality that he must part ways with the 31-year-old defender this summer. Mings’ dedication to Villa is commendable, as he often plays through pain, but his ongoing fitness struggles are becoming a significant issue.

After 59 minutes on the field, Mings was substituted due to a knee problem, bringing on Lamare Bogarde, who impressed with a strong performance. The game saw Marco Asensio score twice, both assisted by Marcus Rashford, turning the match in Villa’s favor after Enzo Fernandez had initially put Chelsea ahead.

Mings played solidly, making crucial interceptions, including blocking a shot from Pedro Neto early in the match. However, this latest knee injury could mean another extended period on the sidelines for the England international, who has 18 caps. With Mings’ contract running until the summer of 2026, Emery is likely to prioritize strengthening his defense, which could lead to the decision to sell the veteran center-back, who has been with the club since 2019.

Aston Villa Needs to Move On From Mings Emery Can’t Rely on the Defender

Mings has missed 74 games due to knee injuries, including a significant stretch during the 2023-2024 season due to an ACL injury. He was rushed back into action, playing three games in a week after his return, which seems to have taken a toll, possibly sidelining him again.

Before his injury, the Bath-born defender made two key blocks, won all three of his ground duels and both of his aerial duels. He has been a loyal servant to the Villans, but Emery now faces the difficult decision of moving on from him. Villa also has the versatile Bogarde, who put in an error-free performance after coming on for Mings.

Tyrone Mings’ Stats vs Chelsea:

Mings, who reportedly earns £100,000 a week, joined Villa from Bournemouth for £20 million six years ago and has made 179 appearances. However, with his career winding down and recurring injury issues, Emery can no longer overlook the situation. The team has also been without Spanish defender Pau Torres due to injury and Frenchman Axel Disasi, who was ineligible to face his parent club.
