Leicester City were dealt a hammer blow to their survival hopes when they faced off with Brentford on February 21st.

It’s now 10 defeats from 11 in the Premier League for the Foxes, with their relegation to the Championship already all but confirmed.

There is only a two-point gap between Leicester City and safety but when looking at their upcoming fixtures and current form, there’s no chance they stay up.

While a lot of people, including Jon Rudkin, Leicester’s owner, and many players will take the blame for how this season has played out, it’s clear Ruud van Nistelrooy was the wrong appointment.

The former striker is still yet to keep a single clean sheet since taking over and actually has a worse record than Steve Cooper before he was dismissed.

He’s been in charge of one Premier League game more and after sacking Cooper following his 12th game, it’s now time for Ruud to go.

Facundo Buonanotte reaction proves Leicester City need to sack Ruud van Nistelrooy

Van Nistelrooy was by no means helped out during the 2025 winter transfer window when just one player arrived at the club.

However, the Dutchman must shoulder some of the blame for Leicester’s awful record.

His insistence on starting Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordova-Reid is baffling, especially when Facundo Buonanotte has been left rotting on the bench.

The Argentine excelled during the early stages of his loan spell but has started just three league matches under Ruud.

Buonanotte came on the 55th minute against Brentford, receiving huge applause and cheers from the Leicester faithful.

His impact, though it didn’t change the result, was instant and highlighted what a mistake it was for Van Nistelrooy to leave him out of the eleven in so many matches.

The ex-Manchester United man has made a lot of errors, but leaving out a player of his quality shows he’s just not cut out to keep Leicester up.

Alan Smith comments on Facundo Buonanotte during Leicester City vs Brentford

Buonanotte was the Foxes’ most threatening player, tried to create chances, tested the goalkeeper, and worked hard.

Fans clearly appreciated the efforts of the South American and will be baffled by the fact Ruud continues to drop him.

Alan Smith, speaking on commentary for Sky Sports during the game, shared his verdict on the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee as well.

He said: “He’s made a real difference, Buonanotte. The crowd are recognising that.

“There’s imagination in his play.”
