Everton are aiming to make significant progress in the coming months, both on and off the pitch.
The Friedkin Group couldn’t have asked for a better outcome from David Moyes’ appointment.
After six Premier League matches in charge, the 61-year-old has led Everton to two wins, one draw, and one loss, marking an impressive turnaround. This has helped the Toffees distance themselves from the relegation zone, with their focus already shifting towards the summer.
Kevin Thelwell has hinted at an exciting summer for Everton, as the club will have more PSR freedom following a stringent January transfer window.
But it’s not just the transfer window fans have to look forward to. Behind the scenes, efforts are underway to offer Everton real opportunities for further financial growth.
Everton in talks for USA pre-season tournament
Reports suggest that Everton are in discussions for a pre-season tour to the United States as part of the Premier League’s Summer Series.
While nothing is official yet, this could provide a significant financial boost for the club. This would be a stark contrast to last summer, under former manager Sean Dyche, when the Toffees’ pre-season was limited to the UK, apart from a game against Sligo Rovers.
According to The Guardian, Dyche believed there was more value in staying domestic for the pre-season tour, a decision that didn’t yield the desired results, as Everton’s form early in the season was disappointing.
The results from last summer’s friendlies were underwhelming:
Sligo Rovers 3-3 Draw
Salford City 2-1 Loss
Coventry City 3-0 Loss
Preston North End 0-3 Win
AS Roma 1-1 Draw
Not only did Everton face a challenging summer and a poor start to the season, but they also missed out on the opportunity to generate substantial revenue from a pre-season tour.
With the new stadium expected to boost revenue by £17m, events like the Summer Series provide a valuable financial opportunity for clubs like Everton.
Given the club’s financial struggles in recent years, Farhad Moshiri’s backing of Dyche’s decision reflects the challenges Everton have faced.
Everton making progress under Moyes
In just over a month, Moyes has delivered more Premier League wins than Dyche managed in the first five months of the season. The mood at the club has notably improved, with the Friedkin Group’s decision to part ways with Dyche bringing a positive shift.
Jake O’Brien, in particular, has thrived under Moyes’ leadership.
Dyche’s strict rule against leaving England for the pre-season, which was in place last summer, doesn’t align with where modern Premier League clubs need to be, both on the field and financially. This decision didn’t benefit Everton football-wise, nor did it help the club’s finances.
