“Don’t say that”- Alan Brazil in disbelief at what Tony Bellew’s said ahead of Everton v Liverpool

Everton face a tough challenge as they take on Liverpool in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park this Wednesday.

David Moyes’ side may be on a three-match winning streak in the Premier League, their first such run since December 2023, but they’ll be up against a Liverpool team in excellent form, with few backing them to prevail.

While the Reds suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last time out, they’ve remained unbeaten in the league since mid-September, winning six of their last eight matches.

Even so, the atmosphere at Goodison Park, as it hosts this fierce rivalry for the final time, is set to be electric. One well-known Everton supporter is hopeful it will play into the Toffees’ hands.

Tony Bellew Takes a Step Back on Everton v Liverpool Prediction

Tony Bellew was on talkSPORT with Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist ahead of Wednesday’s derby, but the pundits found it hard to get a definitive prediction from the former boxer.

Bellew boldly claimed: “The streets will be painted blue tonight – we are getting the better of these horrible Koptites, well and truly.”

Brazil pointed out: “This will be the 120th time Everton have hosted Liverpool at Goodison, and both teams have won 41 games each. So, the winner on Wednesday will tip the scales in favour of either blue or red.”

Bellew quickly adjusted, saying: “It is what it is, we’ve got to get through tonight – there’s no point in lying, I’d probably take a draw now.”

“Don’t say that,” Brazil responded, while McCoist, shocked, remarked: “Hold on a minute, you were full of confidence a moment ago, Tony. What happened? What a change of heart!”

Everton’s Hopes Rest on Perfect Conditions

The Everton faithful are undoubtedly hoping to secure one final victory over their Merseyside rivals before Goodison Park’s doors close for good, and the current form of Moyes’ side certainly fuels that optimism.

The Toffees have been in strong shape under Moyes, winning their last three matches, scoring eight goals, and conceding just three. It’s the best form they’ve shown all season.

Last season’s derby – played amid a relegation battle for Everton and a title push for Liverpool – saw the Toffees win 2-0, all but securing their Premier League safety and delivering a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s title ambitions. While this season’s context is different, Everton have a real opportunity to disrupt their rivals again.

If they can prevent Liverpool from stretching their lead at the top of the table to nine points, it will be a huge boost for Evertonians worldwide. And if the Goodison atmosphere is as intense as the Toffees hope, the visitors are in for a challenging night.
