It’s hard to recall a time when Leeds United have been in such incredible form. Last season’s unbeaten run from January to April was impressive, but this current streak feels even more exceptional.
A dominant 7-0 victory over a strong Cardiff City side at Elland Road on Saturday secured Leeds’ biggest win in 53 years, marking their first seven-goal margin since their 7-0 triumph over Southampton in 1972.
Six players got on the scoresheet – Brenden Aaronson, Manor Solomon, Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto, Mateo Joseph, and Joel Piroe, with Piroe bagging a brace. The team is brimming with players in outstanding form right now.
Dan James, however, might be playing the best football of his career. After contributing to 21 goals in 46 games last season, his current form is even more impressive, with 14 goals and assists in just 25 appearances.
Simon Grayson recently spoke about James’ efforts behind the scenes after his standout performance against Cardiff, where he scored once and provided two assists. According to Grayson, James has been putting in significant work in training and constantly threatens opponents with his versatility, mixing up his play and showing great confidence.
Grayson added, “I’m told he works incredibly hard in training, always a constant threat. I love how he switches up his game, making runs behind the defense or receiving the ball to feet. He’s getting into the box and playing with real confidence. Long may it continue.”
Is James currently the best player in the Championship? While Manor Solomon might have something to say about that, James has been sensational since the start of the year. In his six Championship starts, he’s contributed to six goals – three goals and three assists.
Only Solomon and James have managed eight goal involvements since December 21, leaving other players like Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani sidelined.
For Leeds to push for promotion, they’ll need both James and Solomon to keep up their excellent form. Saturday’s win was straightforward, but Wednesday’s match against Coventry will surely present a much tougher challenge.
