‘Absolutely incredible’: Sky Sports pundit loves what he spotted Leeds duo do to help Manor Solomon

If anyone was still questioning whether Leeds United have the most formidable attack in the Championship, Saturday’s 7-0 demolition of Cardiff City left no room for doubt.

Leeds ruthlessly dismantled Omer Riza’s side to secure their biggest home victory since a 1972 thrashing of Southampton.

Six different players found the back of the net, with the exceptional Joel Piroe scoring twice to join Brenden Aaronson, Manor Solomon, and Dan James, as well as substitutes Willy Gnonto and Mateo Joseph, on the scoresheet.

James also added two assists to his tally – former Leeds manager Simon Grayson praised the Welshman after the match – while Solomon delivered another dazzling performance.

That Daniel Farke was able to bring on Gnonto, Joseph, and Largie Ramazani from the bench highlights the impressive depth at his disposal.

However, former Leeds striker Michael Bridges emphasized the importance of the full-backs in Farke’s fluid, high-scoring system.

Junior Firpo started at left-back against Cardiff, with Jayden Bogle on the right.

Farke has described Bogle as Leeds’ most consistent performer since the start of the year, but on Saturday, Firpo outshone him. Firpo assisted three goals in the second half, doubling his assist tally for the season.

Bridges noted the advanced positions Firpo and Bogle take up when Leeds are in possession. Pushed high up the field, often playing more like forwards than traditional full-backs, they create overloads and open up space for players like Solomon, James, and Piroe to attack the penalty area.

Just after setting up James for Leeds’ third goal, Firpo was spotted inside the six-yard box as James won a penalty that Piroe calmly converted.

Bogle, with three goals and two assists this season, is also becoming one of Farke’s key contributors in attack.

Bridges also praised the tactical setup for the penalty: “The forwards are so narrow. The full-backs provide the width, and when you’ve got three players tight in the box like that, it’s a nightmare for defenders.”

Farke was most impressed by the relentless nature of Leeds’ performance.

Many teams might have eased off after going 4-0 up, but Leeds pressed on, maintaining their intensity.

“With such an impressive scoreline, the win is even sweeter,” Farke said. “This league is relentless, and we have to be relentless. We showed that today. Even at 5-0, we kept pressing and creating chances. It’s rare to have a day like this in this league, so I’m definitely in a good mood.”

Farke, who has won five league titles in his career, reflected on the significance of the performance, saying, “It’s not about individual achievements but about what the team did after the criticism following the Burnley game. Today was a great team performance. I hope we’ll have more to celebrate in May.”
