🚨BREAKING: Pundit warns Championship rivals not to sign ‘Tremendous’ Leeds ace

Carlton Palmer has cautioned Blackburn Rovers against pursuing Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford.

The 31-year-old is currently on the periphery at Elland Road, attracting significant interest during the winter transfer window, particularly from Championship side Blackburn.

However, despite John Eustace naming Bamford as one of his targets for Ewood Park, Palmer advised Rovers, speaking to Football League World (15 January), to reconsider their interest.

He stated: “I’m a big fan of Patrick Bamford, but it seems he’s recently picked up a hamstring injury. He hasn’t played much football lately and has been plagued by injuries, which might influence [Eustace’s] decision.

“Daniel Farke has always indicated a desire to keep Bamford at Leeds. He’s a fantastic player who can score goals at both Championship and Premier League levels, but the issue is his ongoing fitness struggles in recent years.

“It could end up being a situation where Leeds hold onto him until the end of the season, but if I were a manager, I wouldn’t be able to count on him consistently.

“He won’t come cheaply, and he’s not someone I could rely on week in, week out.”

Leeds United’s reluctance to let Bamford go in January seems puzzling given his limited role this season. With Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe preferred by Farke, Bamford has only accumulated 123 minutes of first-team football this term, with his most significant appearance being a 25-minute cameo in the 1-1 draw with Preston North End on 14 December.

Bamford’s last goal for Leeds came in April 2024, and with the club currently leading the Championship, it seems unlikely he will play a key role in their title chase this season.

However, his injury woes could derail any potential transfer and complicate efforts to end his seven-year tenure at Elland Road.

While Blackburn are pushing for a playoff spot and could benefit from a proven goalscorer like Bamford—provided he stays fit—his recent lack of availability raises doubts about a potential deal.

It remains to be seen whether Bamford will still be at Leeds when the transfer window closes on 3 February, but early indications suggest he may remain with the club.
