‘Didn’t trust them’: Manager hints he deliberately left £10m man out of FA Cup squad amid Leeds United links

If Leeds United decide to make moves in the January transfer window, it’s likely to be for a striker or a centre-back, and one potential target may have just become available.

With Joe Gelhardt leaving for Hull and Patrick Bamford attracting interest from Blackburn while also being sidelined by injury, Leeds’ attacking options could be significantly reduced. Meanwhile, their depth at centre-back is also limited, as Max Wober’s injuries are becoming more frequent and Pascal Struijk’s recent absences have highlighted the need for further reinforcement in defense.

Leeds are reportedly considering a reunion with Daniel Farke, and one player who has been linked with them in recent weeks is Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele. The Republic of Ireland international has struggled for game time at Forest and is now keen on a move.

Omobamidele, who is valued at £10m, has also been linked with Sheffield United, who are seeking a replacement for Harry Souttar. However, Leeds could have the upper hand in the race due to their willingness to meet the asking price.

In Forest’s FA Cup win over Luton on Saturday, which saw Nuno Espirito Santo make 11 changes, Omobamidele was notably left out of the squad entirely, suggesting he is not in the manager’s plans. Nuno stated that only Ibrahim Sangare was unavailable, further implying that Omobamidele’s exclusion was a decision based on his current standing at the club.

Leeds’ win against Harrogate has put them in a favorable position compared to Sheffield United in the pursuit of Omobamidele, as he would be eligible to play for Leeds in one more game than he would for the Blades. Omobamidele’s omission from Forest’s squad also means he would not be cup-tied if he joins Leeds soon.

While Daniel Farke has indicated that Leeds are expecting a quiet transfer window, the club’s interest in Omobamidele appears to be growing as the player becomes more available.
