Everton supporters deliver unanimous David Moyes verdict as squad sent ‘no nonsense’ message

Everton fans have been reacting online after the announcement that David Moyes has been appointed as the club’s new manager. The Scot was confirmed as Sean Dyche’s successor on Saturday morning.

Moyes has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues, with his first match in charge set to be against Aston Villa on Wednesday night. The 61-year-old previously managed Everton for 11 years, from 2002 to 2013.

Moyes’ immediate challenge will be to help Everton avoid relegation. The club is currently just one point above the drop zone and has only secured three wins in the Premier League so far this season. Below is a look at how Liverpool ECHO readers have responded to the news.

Commenter SteGriff1967 shared: “I know some fans aren’t happy with Moyes, but I’m thrilled. He worked with limited resources at Everton and still managed to lead us into Europe most years. He made shrewd signings, sold them for a profit, and kept Everton afloat. He achieved similar success with West Ham, getting them into Europe every season and even winning a European trophy. I can’t understand anyone not supporting this.”

PaulMcDermott added: “Moyes did well during his first spell at Everton, even with a very tight budget. He’s the right man for the job, and I believe he’ll steady the ship and guide us through to the end of the season.”

BootRoomReloaded7 commented: “He’ll feel right at home—straightforward and no nonsense. He’ll get on with managing the players, and next season, with the new stadium, it’s a fresh start! Great choice, welcome home. There will always be detractors, but Moyes knows Everton inside and out. That’s why they’ve chosen the safest and best option.”

Mickbutcher noted: “I think he’ll make us more organised and hopefully more attacking. The real worry is our lack of a goal scorer, though—it’s a major concern.”

Weshallnotbemoved stated: “Moyes is far better at it than Dyche, although both play similar football. His appointment almost guarantees we won’t be relegated, and that’s all I’m asking for this season.”
