Report: TFG ready to beat competition and make £16m midfielder their first Everton signing

The January transfer window has only been open a matter of days but Everton are looking to close their first deal of the month.

Everton are in need of additions having struggled to assert themselves as anything other than relegation candidates so far this term.

The Friedkin Group are to back Kevin Thelwell in the market after deciding to keep him as the club’s director of football.

Any new faces will surely be welcomed by Sean Dyche with the sides around Everton in the table also looking to strengthen their sides.

A new midfielder is on the agenda for the Toffees and the new owners on Merseyside are looking to beat the competition to one, in particular.

Everton ready to push for Habib Diarra

With new recruits on the radar, it is believed Everton are in the market for a new midfielder having suffered a number of injury issues.

According to Senegal 7, Everton are keen to sign midfielder Habib Diarra from Strasbourg who is receiving interest from Stade Rennais.

Strasbourg are believed to be willing to drop their valuation of the player down to around €20m (£16m) and they would be happy to sell if an offer came in.

Everton are positioning themselves to act quickly and are preparing an offer to match Strasbourg’s demands.

Diarra is not the only midfielder who is on the radar at Goodison, with Everton also eyeing Lyon’s Maxence Caqueret.

Everton have received midfield injury boost

It has been a real struggle at time for the Toffees this season having seen a number of their players sidelined through injury.

James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam have returned from injury, but the pair are still working on their return to the grass.

Adding to the midfield could be a wise move for Everton as long as their attacking issues are also addressed in the window.

Diarra is an attacking midfielder who could offer something going forward having returned three goals in LIgue 1 this season.

Defending has not been a pressing issue for the Toffees this term, the same cannot be said going the other way.
