Graham Potter is set to be announced as West Ham United’s new manager very soon.

When he arrives at the London Stadium, he’ll have a significant task ahead of him with the squad.

With Potter in charge, the future looks promising for West Ham, and I’m excited to see the team playing quality football again.

It seems the board has informed Potter that he’ll have funds to invest in the January transfer window.

This is obviously fantastic news for us.

Potter’s key priorities will be securing a pacey centre-forward, a central midfield powerhouse who can carry the ball, and a central defender who excels in the air and is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll manage to complete all these signings before January’s window closes.

However, I fully expect our squad to be much more balanced once the summer transfer window closes in seven months.

I also anticipate that Potter will move on several players permanently.

£30m man won’t have a future at West Ham under Graham Potter

The Hammers have a significant amount of deadwood that needs to be cleared from the club in the next two transfer windows.

One of these players is currently on loan, but I believe he should be sold as soon as possible.

Nayef Aguerd left West Ham on transfer deadline day for a season-long loan at Real Sociedad.

Surprisingly, he has been outstanding for the La Liga club. Perhaps Spanish football suits him better than the English game.

However, Aguerd recently mentioned that he could still return to West Ham at the end of the season.

Some West Ham fans have suggested that Aguerd would be a great fit for Lopetegui’s system due to his ball skills.

But those fans must have forgotten that Aguerd struggles terribly with actual defending and is poorly equipped for the physicality of Premier League football.

The former Rennes centre-back has the worst positional awareness I’ve seen from a supposed top-tier defender.

His concentration was shocking during his time at West Ham, and he was regularly overpowered by opposing strikers.

There’s no way Nayef Aguerd has a future under Graham Potter at West Ham. If Potter is serious about getting us back into Europe, selling Aguerd permanently this summer should be his top priority.
