Leicester City’s squad is expected to look somewhat different once the January transfer window slams shut.

Leicester City are expected to make signings in the current window as they aim to avoid a swift return to the Championship.

Defensive reinforcements appear to be the main priority at the King Power Stadium in the winter, which makes sense given they are leaking goals right now.

But while incomings are going to be important, there could also be a couple of exits from the club this month.

Crystal Palace are open to selling Odsonne Edouard if his loan deal with Leicester is terminated in January.

Elsewhere, some young Foxes players could be sent out on loan to garner more first-team experience.

Ruud van Nistelrooy thinks Will Alves is what Leicester City need

One player who could fall into that category is 19-year-old attacking midfielder, Will Alves.

Alves made his Premier League debut on Sunday, coming off the bench as Leicester lost 2-0 against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Now, as per Leicestershire Live, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been discussing the midfielder’s development and stated his belief that he’s what the club needs.

He said: “First, maintaining his training levels. He’s been doing really well in training. That’s why he’s there. He’s pushing for a place in the squad.

“What he has is speed, good feet, he can create something, powerful. It’s what we need on the wings, players who can take on one-v-ones, get balls into the opponent’s box and get past people to create chances for us. Will is capable of that. Of course, he’s very young and needs to keep working like he’s doing now.”

Will Alves open to Leicester City January exit

While Van Nistelrooy thinks Alves is what the Foxes need right now, the player himself is open to leaving the club.

The teenager has so far made just three senior appearances in 2024/25, noticing less than 45 minutes of action.

As quoted in the above report from Leicestershire Live, Alves has expressed his willingness to leave Leicester on loan in January to ensure he gets regular playing time.

He said:“Since making my debut aged 16, I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. All the lads have helped me. Even joining in the changing room last season, everyone made me feel so welcome. I’ve grown a lot in confidence with the lads and I feel a real part of the team.

“I have to continue with the confidence I have to play. I want to get as many minutes as I can. The more I play, the more I improve every single day. I want to play men’s football as much as possible, whether that’s here or on loan. I’m excited for the new year.”

In turn, if Ruud really does belive in Alves, he may have to start giving him more minutes in the coming weeks or send him out on loan to keep him happy.
