‘Priority’ – Expert predicts Aston Villa ace could join West Brom on loan in January

Aston Villa forward Samuel Iling-Junior could be heading to the Championship on loan with West Brom, Bryan King has predicted.

As reported by Jacob Tanswell via The Athletic (29 December), Villa could recall Iling-Junior from his loan spell with Bologna in Italy amid concerns about the forward’s lack of game time.

The England Under-21 international would then be allowed to join another club on loan as he has yet to play a competitive match for Villa, with suggestions having been made that Unai Emery doesn’t think Iling-Junior is ready for the Premier League.

And ex-Villa scout King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has speculated that The Hawthorns might be a potential destination for the 21-year-old.

“I think securing Iling-Junior a loan move in England will be a priority,” King said.

“He doesn’t seem to be in Emery’s plans. Therefore, a top Championship club might be a good move for him. It would give him a chance to boost his fitness while Villa would be able to keep a close eye on him.

“That is a possibility. I don’t think they’re calling him back from Bologna because they want him to play in the first-team. West Brom is a potential option, Middlesbrough too. I’m sure either of those clubs would be interested if they knew Iling-Junior was available.”

Aston Villa forward Samuel Illing-Junior to join West Brom?

Iling-Junior is yet to start a Serie A match for Bologna. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Villa are considering bringing the Englishman back to the club.

However, if they are to bring him back, they need to have a clear plan in place. Iling-Junior wouldn’t be the only player player returning in January, and Villa need to make sure they know what they’re doing.

If Emery doesn’t plan to use the forward, another loan move needs to be arranged.

However, after his struggles at Bologna, this needs to be a more productive move for Iling-Junior.
