‘I love how he plays the game’: Eddie Howe reserves special praise for Magpies Man ahead of Manchester United clash

Newcastle United have one of the world’s best strikers in their ranks, few people would deny that fact, but Eddie Howe, while a huge admirer of Alexander Isak, still believes he has work to do.

Alexander Isak is finding form at the right time for Newcastle after both he and the team had an indifferent start to the campaign.

Newcastle’s last three Premier League games hold an aggregate score of 11-0 for the Magpies, and of those goals, Alexander Isak has five of them.

It’s no real surprise then that Isak is constantly being linked with an exit with Arsenal the media’s preferred destination. Unfortunately for them, Newcastle have reportedly slapped a £150 million price tag on the Swede. Even that seems too low.

Eddie Howe is ignoring the noise around Alexander Isak’s future

Speaking ahead of Monday’s game against Manchester United (h/t The Chronicle), Eddie Howe has spoken of how he’s ignoring the noise around Isak’s future as he feels he still has work to do with the 25-year-old.

“That is not something I waste my time on [speculation over Isak’s future], but I understand you have to. My biggest thing with Alex is I am evaluating his game on a daily and weekly basis and I just want to try to push him for more. Everyone else can say where he is in the pecking order of world football.

“His game is in a good place at the moment. My job is to not sit back and appreciate that, my job is to try and find areas he can improve, push him towards that and never stop pushing him. He has all the ingredients in there and football never stops evolving and changing and he has to evolve with it.

“When I saw him I was instantly taken with his game. I love how he plays the game and expresses himself and I still enjoy watching him as a manager now. I need to find the things that can make him better and I can’t stop on his behalf.”

It’s scary to think Isak could actually get better

Other than missing a few one-on-ones lately, it’s actually hard to imagine what else Isak could improve on, and that’s a scary thought that he can still get better.

If Newcastle United can match his ambition and keep him at the club, Isak could be a force at the club for years.

Let’s see if he can keep up his goal-scoring form on Monday night when we take on Man United at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports – Kick-off is at 8pm.
