Leicester City have been linked with a host of players as we head toward the January transfer window.
Leicester City are in danger of being relegated straight back down to the Championship this season and will need to use the upcoming winter window wisely if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.
With 40 goals (joint-league high) conceded in 18 matches, it’s obvious defensive reinforcements will be required.
On this front, a plethora of stars have already been touted as potential options for Ruud van Nistelrooy over the last few weeks.
Leicester have been linked with Chancel Mbemba this week and with his contract expiring in June, he could be available for a cut-price fee.
Elsewhere, the Foxes are eyeing a move for Valentin Gomez, who could cost somewhere in the region of £8m-£10m.
A former star could potentially make a return to the King Power Stadium at some point in 2025 as well.
Reports earlier this week claimed a Leicester return for Harry Maguire is not completely off the table. But he’s not the only Red Devil to have been linked with the relegation-threatened side of late.
Fabrizio Romano comments on Leicester City links to Victor Lindelof
Victor Lindelof has found playing time very hard to come by in 2024/25, especially in the Premier League.
The Swede has notched just 59 minutes of top-flight action and with his contract expiring in 2025, doesn’t appear to have much of a future at Old Trafford.
Now, writing for Give Me Sport, Fabrizio Romano has commented on Leicester’s links to Lindelof.
And while Man Utd are said to be open to proposals for the stopper in January, a move to Leicester appears to be a non-starter.
He wrote: “Victor Lindelof is expected to say goodbye to the Red Devils in 2025, with his contract due to expire in June; Man United will be open to listening to proposals in January, but when a player has the chance to be a free agent a few months later it has to be the right opportunity, or he could decide to wait until the summer to find his favourite solution without involving the club.
“There have been several links between Leicester City and Lindelof due to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appreciation, but sources guarantee that there are no talks ongoing and probably the Swedish defender will look at different clubs when it’s time to leave Man United.”
Other defenders linked with Leicester City this month
While a move for Lindelof looks to be off the cards, there are still plenty more names being tipped to move to the Midlands.
Leicester have been linked with Ben Godfrey, who would bring some Premier League experience to the club.
Elsewhere, the Foxes are rivalling Manchester City for Abdukodir Khusanov of RC Lens, with the defender likely to cost potential suitors around £20m-£30m.
Both players would be solid additions for Van Nistelrooy but for the time being, he must make do with his current options who, putting it lightly, have been far from great this term.
