Dominic Calvert-Lewin playing regularly for Everton is a âgreatâ thing, Sam Matterface says.
The 27-year-old has started in all but one Premier League game for the Toffees in the current campaign, which wasnât possible in previous seasons.
Matterface is delighted to see the England international getting consistent minutes as The Friedkin Group (TFG) are contemplating giving the striker a new contract after their takeover [TEAMtalk, 19 December].
Speaking on talkSPORTâs Premier League All Access [24 December], the 46-year-old said: âOne of the great things at the moment, I know heâs not scoring goals, but seeing Calvert-Lewin line up every single week. Heâs playing football every week. Thatâs good because he wasnât doing that before. Injury is horrible.â
Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to step up at Everton
Calvert-Lewin has endured some challenging times at the Toffees, dealing with multiple fitness issues in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
Since the previous campaign, the Englishman seems to have gotten over his injury troubles and has been available for most games.
Sean Dyche has relied on the 27-year-old this term, but with just two goals, he has left a lot to be desired.
Everton have the second-fewest goals in the English top flight this season, and Beto has been missing his shooting boots as well.
The Toffees signed Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea in the summer, but the Albanian has only recently returned to action after being sidelined.
Calver-Lewin is still the first choice at the Blues, but with his contract expiring and goals drying up, maybe itâs time for the Merseyside outfit to move on from him.
TFG have a massive rebuild ahead and should start looking for a replacement number nine to begin with.
