Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by Roma in the Europa League on Thursday evening, with the Italian side snatching a point in stoppage time. Here, we take a look at how the Tottenham players performed on the night.
Fraser Forster, who started in goal for Tottenham, was solid but unspectacular, making a few decent saves but ultimately failing to prevent Roma from scoring twice. He was awarded a rating of 6 out of 10.
Pedro Porro, who played at right-back, was his usual energetic self, joining in with attacks and testing the Roma goalkeeper on several occasions. However, he was guilty of a few mistakes, including a misplaced header that almost gifted Roma a goal. Porro was awarded a rating of 6 out of 10.
Radu Dragusin, who partnered Davinson Sanchez at centre-back, had a difficult evening, looking unconvincing at times and giving away a free-kick that led to Roma’s opening goal. Dragusin was awarded a rating of 5 out of 10.
“Davinson Sanchez and Radu Dragusin struggled at times, but we’ll work on that,” said Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. “We need to be more solid defensively if we’re going to achieve our goals.”
Brennan Johnson, who scored Tottenham’s second goal, was praised by Postecoglou despite being berated by the manager for a tactical oversight. “Brennan’s a talented young player, and he’s got a lot to learn,” said Postecoglou. “But he’s got a great attitude, and he’s always looking to improve.”
Tottenham’s draw with Roma leaves them second in their Europa League group, two points behind leaders Roma. The two teams will meet again in the reverse fixture in Rome next month.
“We’re disappointed not to have won the game, but we’ll take the point and move on,” said Postecoglou. “We’ve got a lot of games coming up, and we need to be ready for them.”
