Pascal Gross Faces Uncertain Future at Borussia Dortmund
Former Brighton & Hove Albion stalwart Pascal Gross has found himself relegated to a peripheral role at Borussia Dortmund, sparking concerns about his long-term future at the club.
Gross, 33, joined Dortmund in the summer of 2024, bringing an end to his successful six-year tenure at Brighton. The German midfielder was a versatile and integral part of the Seagulls’ setup, making over 200 appearances across all competitions.
However, since his move to Dortmund, Gross has struggled to replicate his Brighton form. According to German publication BILD Ruhr-West, Gross has been “demoted to benchwarmer” status under manager Nuri Sahin.
The midfielder’s omission from the starting lineup against Freiburg at the weekend has raised eyebrows, with Felix Nmecha’s impressive performances in central midfield appearing to have pushed Gross down the pecking order.
As a result, Gross is no longer the first-choice option at Dortmund, and his playing time is expected to decrease significantly. Having already accumulated 761 minutes of Bundesliga action this season, Gross may find himself spending more time on the bench than on the pitch.
Nmecha’s emergence as a key player has propelled Dortmund up the table, but it has come at the expense of Gross’s playing time. The former Brighton hero is now facing an uncertain future at the Westfalenstadion, with his role in the team increasingly marginalized.
