Brighton’s Big Move: The Coaches’ Coach from Germany Joins Hürzeler

Brighton & Hove Albion have taken a bold step in their coaching ranks, bringing on board Germany’s famed coaching mentor, Daniel Niedzkowski, to support head coach Fabian Hürzeler. Known as the “coaches’ coach” back home, Niedzkowski is celebrated for his mentorship skills and his role in developing top-tier coaching talent across Germany, including Hürzeler himself.Brighton announced, “We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Daniel Niedzkowski as assistant head coach, who will take up the position in January, subject to a successful work permit application.” The 47-year-old has built a distinguished career over the last decade, including time as Germany’s under-21 coach and, more recently, as head of the German Football Federation’s (DFB) elite coach training programme.Niedzkowski’s journey began in 2012 with Germany’s under-20 team, followed by a three-year tenure as assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen. During his time at Leverkusen, he played a crucial role in guiding the club to three Champions League qualifications, helping mold several players who would go on to become European stars. In 2016, Niedzkowski took over Germany’s under-21 squad, leading them in 73 matches, including the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.Brighton head coach Hürzeler shared his excitement: “I am delighted to welcome Daniel to the club. He will be an excellent addition to our coaching team… He is somebody I know very well from Germany and have been keen to bring him to the club.”Technical director David Weir added, “He has a wealth of experience… and knows what it takes to get the best out of young footballers, which is crucial to our DNA.”Niedzkowski’s arrival could mark a new chapter for Brighton’s development, not only strengthening their backroom team but also impacting the club’s coaching standards from the Academy through to the first team.
