Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed his astonishment at the lack of interest in Eberechi Eze during the summer transfer window, saying “I was astounded by the lack of interest in Eberechi. He’s an outstanding footballer and person.”

Despite being linked to several top Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Manchester City, Eze remained at Selhurst Park. Parish admitted, “I was worried about losing both Michael and Ebbs in the same window, but I was astounded by the lack of interest in Eberechi.”

Parish’s surprise is understandable, given Eze’s impressive performances for Palace and his England international status. “I thought we would have had more interest in him, but it didn’t materialize,” Parish added.

Tottenham were reportedly interested in activating Eze’s release clause, valued at £60m plus add-ons, but a move never materialized. The club’s hesitation may have been due to the impressive performances of their young midfielder, Lucas Bergvall, during pre-season.

“Eberechi is a special player, and we’re delighted to keep him,” Parish emphasized. “He’s a key player for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to shine at Palace.”

Eze’s retention is a significant boost for Crystal Palace, and Parish will be relieved to have kept the talented midfielder at the club. With Eze on board, Palace will be aiming to build on their recent success and challenge for European spots this season.
