Pundit Alan Shearer praised West Ham’s performance despite their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, saying, “I think West Ham did well today. They had some good moments, and they can build on this performance. They need to work on their finishing and defending, but they have the potential to improve in their subsequent matches.”

Shearer added, “West Ham’s second-half performance was much better than their first half. They created chances and put pressure on Manchester City’s defense. If they can maintain that level of performance, they can get some good results this season.”

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui expressed his disappointment and frustration after the match, saying, “We started the game very well, but we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities. This Manchester City team doesn’t forgive you if you don’t take advantage of your chances. They scored, and it became very difficult for us.”

Lopetegui praised his team’s second-half performance, saying, “We made some adjustments and did better. We had more possession, created chances, and defended better. However, it’s frustrating because the players made a big effort, and we deserved more from the second half.”

The West Ham manager acknowledged the quality of the opposition, saying, “Manchester City is a team that requires you to be almost perfect to beat them. They have incredible players and many solutions.”

Lopetegui also introduced the team’s new loan signing, Carlos Soler, to the home crowd before the match. West Ham will look to bounce back from this defeat when they visit Fulham at Craven Cottage on September 14 after the international break.

In his post-match comments, Lopetegui emphasized the need to build on the positive aspects of their performance, saying, “We want to keep the good things, but it’s not enough. We need to improve and be more precise in our actions.”

Lopetegui also highlighted the importance of learning from their mistakes, saying, “We need to analyze our errors and work on them. We can’t afford to make the same mistakes against a team like Manchester City.”

Despite the defeat, Lopetegui remains optimistic about his team’s chances this season, saying, “We have a good squad, and we can compete against any team. We just need to be more consistent and take our chances.”
