Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has criticized Tottenham Hotspur’s tactics, calling them “naive” and “flawed”.

Speaking after Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City, Neville said: “The way they commit so many players forward, leaving their defense exposed, is naive and will cost them points against better teams.”

Neville also questioned Spurs’ high-pressing game, saying: “It’s not sustainable if they don’t have the discipline to track back and protect their defense. Time and again, Leicester found space behind Spurs’ fullbacks, who were too far up the pitch.”

He added: “The equalizer was a prime example of this. A simple ball over the top and their attacker was free to head home. It’s basic defending, and Spurs got it wrong.”

Neville believes that Spurs need to find a better balance between their attacking and defensive play. “You can’t just ignore the defensive side of the game,” he said. “They need to learn to manage games better, to know when to push forward and when to protect their lead.”

The former England international also expressed frustration at Spurs’ lack of game management. “As a former defender, it frustrates me to see such naivety at the back,” he said. “They have the talent to compete with anyone, but they need to sort out their tactics if they want to make a serious challenge for the top four.”

Neville also criticized Spurs’ fullbacks, saying: “They’re too attacking, too often. They need to find a better balance between supporting the attack and protecting the defense.”

He also suggested that Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, needs to take responsibility for the team’s tactics. “The manager needs to take a hard look at himself and say, ‘Am I getting it right?’ Because at the moment, it’s not working.”

Neville concluded by saying: “Spurs have the potential to be a top-four team, but they need to wise up and start getting results. They can’t keep relying on their attacking flair to bail them out.”
