BREAKING: Crystal Palace Set to Launch Fresh Bid for Defender Identity by Oliver Glasner as the ‘Special one’

August 19, 2024

Crystal Palace are poised to submit a new offer for VfL Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix, according to sources in Germany. The 24-year-old Frenchman has emerged as a top target for the Eagles, who are seeking a potential replacement for either Marc Guehi or Joachim Andersen.

With Newcastle United having already lodged four bids for Guehi, Palace are holding out for a £65 million upfront fee. Meanwhile, Fulham are keen to reunite with Andersen, but Palace are only willing to sell one of their prized assets.

Lacroix, who has been a mainstay for Wolfsburg since joining from Sochaux in 2020, has been identified by Palace manager Oliver Glasner as the ideal replacement. The Frenchman boasts an impressive defensive record, winning 58% of his duels last season and helping Wolfsburg keep four clean sheets in 28 Bundesliga outings.

Despite Wolfsburg manager Ralph Hasenhuttl declaring that Lacroix would stay at the club, Palace have reportedly agreed personal terms with the defender and are advancing with a deal. However, they will need to match Wolfsburg’s €20 million valuation to secure his services.

Palace’s pursuit of Lacroix highlights their determination to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, and the Frenchman’s arrival could provide a significant boost to their defensive options.
