Inter Miami CF Announces Transfer of Homegrown Striker to Vendsyssel FF

August 9, 2024

In a move that marks a significant milestone in the career of one of its most promising young players, Inter Miami CF has announced the transfer of homegrown striker Shanyder Borgelin to Danish second-division side Vendsyssel FF. The 22-year-old Haitian international, who rose through the ranks of Inter Miami CF II before earning a promotion to the first team in 2023, departs with a single goal in 16 appearances.

While Borgelin’s departure may come as a surprise to some, it is a testament to the club’s commitment to developing young talent and providing opportunities for growth and advancement. As chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson noted in a release, “We would like to thank Shanyder for his contributions to the club on and off the pitch, and wish him the best in his next step in Denmark.”

Borgelin’s journey with Inter Miami CF began with the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, where he honed his skills and demonstrated his potential before earning a promotion to the first team. His progress is a shining example of the club’s dedication to nurturing homegrown talent and providing a pathway for young players to succeed at the highest level.

The transfer also highlights Inter Miami CF’s strategic approach to player development and movement. By retaining a sell-on percentage, the club ensures that it will benefit from any future success Borgelin may achieve, while also allowing him the opportunity to continue his growth and development in a new and challenging environment.

Borgelin’s departure marks the second time in recent weeks that a homegrown player has left Inter Miami CF on a permanent transfer. Edison Azcona’s move to USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights last month served as a reminder that the club is committed to creating opportunities for its young players, even if it means allowing them to move on to new challenges.

As Inter Miami CF continues to push for success on the pitch, currently leading the Supporters’ Shield race with the league’s best record (16W-4L-5D; 53 points) and defending its 2023 Leagues Cup title, the transfer of Borgelin serves as a reminder of the club’s commitment to developing young talent and providing opportunities for growth and advancement.
