Everton are hot on the heels of Douglas Luiz, the Brazilian midfielder who’s been making waves in Italy with Juventus. David Moyes is keen on bolstering his midfield this summer, and Luiz is top of the wishlist. With a £100m transfer kitty at their disposal, the Toffees are promising a big summer of recruitment.
However, Luiz’s move to Goodison Park hinges on Everton striking a deal with Juventus. If that doesn’t materialize, the Blues have two other midfielders in their sights. According to reports, Everton are keen on Merlin Röhl from SC Freiburg, who could be had for a snip at around £17m – a far cry from Luiz’s price tag.
Another contender is Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, who’s caught the eye of several top clubs, including Arsenal. The attacking midfielder has been valued at a whopping £60m, but landing a player of his potential would be a major coup for Everton.
Akliouche’s impressive form has already attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, but Everton are keen to snatch him up. If they can outdo the likes of Arsenal and secure Akliouche’s signature, it would send shockwaves through the Premier League.
With Harrison Armstrong looking to impress and Orel Mangala set to return to Lyon, Everton’s midfield is in need of a revamp. Luiz remains the top target, but Röhl and Akliouche are attractive alternatives. Whoever they choose, the Toffees are determined to make a splash this summer.
