Everton are steadily building their squad for the new Premier League season, with the Toffees closing in on a deal for goalkeeper Mark Travers from Bournemouth. Travers is expected to become the club’s third signing of the summer, joining Thierno Barry and Carlos Alcaraz in David Moyes’ growing squad.
However, the transfer market activity surrounding FC Porto right winger Francisco Conceicao has taken an interesting turn. Conceicao, who spent last season on loan with Juventus, has reportedly refused to join Everton despite the Premier League club being willing to meet his £26.07 million release clause.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Conceicao is prioritizing a move to Juventus, and the Serie A club will need to make an offer to beat the deadline set for today. If Juventus fails to meet the release clause, Everton might still have a chance to sign the 22-year-old winger. However, if the Old Lady meets the fee, Conceicao is likely to join them.
The stakes are high, as Conceicao’s release clause will rise to £39.11 million tomorrow, making it even more challenging for clubs to secure his services. Everton, meanwhile, still have plenty of work to do in the transfer market, having lost eight players earlier in the summer.
Moyes’ squad is lacking in several key areas, including centre backs and wingers. The Toffees currently have only three natural centre backs and no natural right wingers, making it essential for the club to act quickly to strengthen their squad. With the new season fast approaching, Moyes will want his new signings to be raring to go for the opener against Leeds United.
