🟠⚫Dave Edwards shares ‘the best signing’ Wolves could probably make this summer

Wolves will have a lot to do this summer – and Dave Edwards has identified one ‘signing’ the club simply have to make.

Vitor Pereira has done a stellar job so far at Molineux and fans are hopeful he’ll be backed in the next transfer window by Fosun.

Pereira has easily guided Wolves to safety in the end, after making the team much more solid and confident.

Many feel that he could bring the good times back to Wolves, but in order to do that he will need to ensure that he gets the right players in.

He also may need some key players he already has to stay, and one man whose future remains up in the air is Nelson Semedo.

Dave Edwards urges Wolves to agree new Nelson Semedo contract

Semedo is set to become a free agent as things currently stand.

The Portugal international may be moving on after what would be five years at the club.

That said, Semedo did recently say a contract extension is still possible at Wolves, which left some fans buzzing.

The general consensus has been that Semedo is a player Wolves need to keep, and Dave Edwards certainly wants to see that happening.

He said on the Wolves Unpacked podcast: “I do think, probably the best signing we could make this summer, would be Nelson Semedo staying at the football club.

“He’s a wonderful, wonderful defender. He’s excellent on the ball. He’s been a mainstay down the right side. One of the best in the league, I think. Especially in that wing-back role. He’s our captain as well, in a season with so much adversity, he’s been the calming head.

“He’s been so, so important to us. So I would love, love, love Nelson Semedo to stay. If he does go, we have to replace him.”

Edwards insisted that it would be a big ask to rely on Rodrigo Gomes or Pedro Lima to succeed Semedo next term if he left.

Semedo staying would be a major boost for Wolves

If Wolves can extend Semedo’s contract then that would be a huge boost.

Semedo had an underwhelming first season at Wolves and some felt the club had really overpaid when they signed him from Barcelona.

Nelson Semedo for Wolves (2020-present) Appearances – 180
Goals – 3
Assists – 11

But he’s been getting better every season, and last term Semedo had his best campaign yet for Wolves, ending the term as the Players’ Player of the Season.

Semedo is just a good all-round defender, and has also shown himself to be a good captain.

It remains to be seen what happens with him in the summer, but hopefully an agreement over a new contract can be reached.
