‘Extremely surprised’ – Four Lads shares verdict as new Rangers contract rejection mooted

Rangers Begin Contract Talks with Bailey Rice Amid Uncertainty

Rangers have initiated discussions with Bailey Rice regarding a new deal at Ibrox, though the negotiations remain uncertain and could potentially fall through.

The 18-year-old has broken into the first-team picture this season, generating significant excitement among fans about his potential. Despite often being overlooked, Rice was handed a start in Rangers’ goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.

His current contract runs until 2026, but the club is keen to secure his long-term future. However, there’s a possibility the midfielder might reject the new offer unless certain assurances are provided.

Uncertainty Over Rice’s Future Despite Expectations

According to Four Lads Had a Dream, it would be surprising if Rice turned down the contract, but they note it’s not a guaranteed outcome. Stevie Clifford expressed on the Rangers Review (23 April) that he’d be shocked if Rice didn’t commit his future to the club.

“I’d be very surprised if Rice didn’t renew and tie his future down at Rangers,” Clifford stated. “I’m not going to call it a formality because he’ll want guarantees, but I do think it’s a positive situation overall.”

So far this season, Rice has made seven appearances across all competitions:

Scottish Premiership: 2

Europa League: 3

Scottish Cup: 2

Future Planning at Ibrox Under 49ers Enterprises

With 49ers Enterprises making strides in acquiring a controlling interest at Rangers, significant changes could be on the horizon. Once the takeover is complete, the US-based group will face major decisions regarding the club’s direction and player contracts.

Vaclav Cerny might return to Wolfsburg after his loan, though Rangers hold an option to make his move permanent. Ianis Hagi’s future is also uncertain, while defender John Souttar’s contract — expiring in 2026 — could soon become a pressing issue.

Having previously lost key players on free transfers, the potential new owners must avoid repeating those mistakes. Bailey Rice, with his evident talent and promise, is a key asset. With the right support and development path, he could evolve into one of Scotland’s standout talents in the coming years.

Exciting times may lie ahead for Rice and the Light Blues as they navigate this critical phase.
