Moyes Should Drop Broja From His Plans Immediately
He’s not part of Everton’s future
Everton boss David Moyes should strongly consider leaving Armando Broja out of his attacking plans for the remainder of the season, given the slim chances of the forward staying at the club beyond the 2024/2025 campaign.
Broja arrived on loan from Chelsea last summer but has failed to make a significant impact. The Albanian international was sidelined by injury just as he was beginning to find his rhythm with a string of substitute appearances, and although he’s now back to full fitness, his performances haven’t justified continued inclusion.
The Toffees hold a £30 million option to sign Broja permanently, but based on his displays so far, he hasn’t done enough to warrant that investment. Despite this, Moyes has continued to show faith in him, starting him in recent matches.
In Everton’s last two fixtures—against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City—Broja led the line, with Beto coming off the bench and Youssef Chermiti omitted entirely in the latter.
Armando Broja – Premier League 2024/25 Stats
Appearances (Starts): 9 (2)
Goals: 0
Expected Goals (xG): 0.11
Successful Dribbles per Game: 0.8 (46%)
Ground Duels Won per Game: 1.4 (34%)
Aerial Duels Won per Game: 1.4 (46%)
Broja is yet to find the net for Everton and hasn’t met expectations. With his future at Goodison Park uncertain, there’s little rationale for continuing to give him minutes on the pitch.
While Beto’s long-term status under Moyes may also be uncertain, now seems like an opportune time to offer him a consistent run of games to build form and confidence. Alternatively, giving a promising young talent like Chermiti a chance could pay dividends in the long run.
Michael Keane Also Under Scrutiny
Another player likely to depart
Michael Keane was also on the receiving end of fan frustration after coming off the bench in the 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City. With his contract expiring this summer, questions have been raised about why Moyes is continuing to rely on players who likely won’t be part of Everton’s future.
Now that Everton are mathematically safe from relegation—and have been for some time—it presents the perfect opportunity to experiment. Moyes should use these final games to assess younger players and those lacking minutes. While this approach might carry short-term risk, there’s little left to lose at this stage of the season.
