Crystal Palace Boss Oliver Glasner Slams Defensive Showing in 5-2 Loss at Manchester City

Crystal Palace suffered a thumping 5-2 defeat at Manchester City, with boss Oliver Glasner criticizing his team’s defensive showing. The Eagles had a promising start, taking a 2-0 lead through Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards, but City’s relentless pressure eventually paid off.

“We were not good enough in defending,” Glasner said. “We made too many mistakes, and a team like City doesn’t forgive you for those mistakes.”

The turning point in the match came when Daichi Kamada gave away a yellow card and a free kick, which Kevin De Bruyne expertly converted to reduce the deficit to 2-1. From there, City’s momentum shifted, and they went on to score three more goals, with Omar Marmoush, Mateo Kovacic, James McAtee, and Nico O’Reilly finding the net.

Glasner acknowledged that his team’s defensive lapses were costly. He emphasized the need for his team to learn from their mistakes and improve their defensive solidity.

“We will learn from this game, we have to learn,” Glasner said. “The last time we conceded five was against Arsenal, and then the players did really well. We will analyse it, we will show them, we will train it, and hopefully we will do it better next time.”

Despite the disappointing result, Glasner was pleased with his team’s start to the match. They had a great chance through Sarr, and Eze’s goal was well worked.

“It was a great start to the game, scoring a third which was disallowed,” Glasner said. “We had a good chance through Sarr, but our defence was not good enough today in defending.”

The defeat highlights the challenges Palace faces in their bid to consolidate their mid-table position. Glasner will be looking to his team to bounce back from this defeat and show more resilience in their upcoming fixtures.
