Marcos Senesi made his ambitions crystal clear during his first interview as a Tottenham Hotspur player.
It had been an open secret for some time that Senesi was headed to Spurs, and earlier today, the club officially confirmed the Argentine as their second signing of the summer transfer window.
The centre-back joins Tottenham on a free transfer following a four-year spell at Bournemouth, bringing considerable experience to the Lilywhites’ defensive line.
Senesi delivered outstanding defensive numbers for Bournemouth last season, and at 29 years old, he is also highly proficient at playing out from the back—a key trait De Zerbi demands from his centre-backs.
Marcos Senesi wants silverware at Tottenham
Some social media users have questioned why the Argentina international would leave Bournemouth—who have qualified for the Europa League—to join a team that has finished 17th in back-to-back seasons.
But Senesi made it clear he is thrilled to join a club of Tottenham’s stature and has his sights set on winning trophies in North London.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the defender said: “It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player. From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in. Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”
Senesi also shared a video message for Spurs supporters.
Senesi’s arrival gives Roberto De Zerbi more options
Adding another top-class left-footed centre-back helps ease the workload on Micky van de Ven, who has suffered several serious injuries during his time at Tottenham.
With Senesi on board, De Zerbi can rotate his central defensive options without a significant drop in quality.
And with Tottenham also confident about securing a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke, the Spurs boss will have the flexibility to deploy a three-man backline when facing certain opponents.
