Derby County are gearing up for another season in the Championship, and manager John Eustace is working hard to strengthen his squad. With seven new signings already, the Rams are looking to add more depth to their midfield. According to the Daily Record, Derby have had a £1.2m bid rejected for Sunderland midfielder Nectarios Triantis.
Triantis, 22, has had limited game time at Sunderland since joining from Central Coast Mariners in 2023, but he impressed during a loan spell at Hibernian last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances. If Derby can agree a deal, Triantis would bring much-needed youth to the squad and provide a permanent solution to their midfield needs.
However, the pursuit of Triantis has raised questions about the future of captain Ebou Adams, who is reportedly on the radar of several Championship clubs. FLW’s Derby County fan pundit Shaun Woodward believes Triantis would be a great signing, but warns that Adams should not be sold under any circumstances.
“I didn’t see this one coming, and if I’m honest, it is a bit surprising,” Shaun told FLW. “He’s the heartbeat of the team, he makes us tick, and he literally is Mr Derby County right now. I just wouldn’t see the sense in selling him right now and replacing him with someone who we don’t know can match up to what he’s done.”
Woodward suggests that Triantis and Adams could play together in a 4-2-3-1 formation, providing a solid platform for the team. With Adams’ importance to the team, it’s hard to see Derby letting him go, but Eustace needs to build depth in midfield. Triantis could be a shrewd signing, and his youth and potential would make him a valuable asset for the Rams.
If Derby can secure Triantis, it would be a great coup, and his permanent status would provide a much-needed boost to the squad. The club may also be able to make a sizeable profit on him in the future, making him a smart investment for the Rams.
