Nottingham Forest winger Ramón Sosa has spoken out about his surprise move to Palmeiras, insisting that the transfer is a “big career step” and not a step backwards. The 24-year-old Paraguayan international was officially unveiled as Palmeiras’ newest signing on Monday, after joining the Brazilian giants from Forest.
Speaking to the local press, Sosa explained that he was drawn to Palmeiras’ ambition and status, highlighting the club’s impressive performance against Chelsea in the Club World Cup. “I think this is a big step in my career. For me, it’s not going backwards. Palmeiras are a top-level club who fight for everything,” he said.
Sosa also praised the positive atmosphere at the club, citing his close relationship with fellow Paraguay international Gustavo Gómez. “Since the moment I arrived, I’ve felt valued. I’m happy here and I believe I’ll grow both as a player and as a person,” he added.
The winger also revealed his admiration for former Tottenham hero Lucas Moura, currently playing for São Paulo. Sosa recounted how he waited by the dressing room after a Copa Libertadores match to request Moura’s shirt, saying “I used to follow him when he played for Tottenham, I liked him a lot.”
Sosa and Moura are set to meet on the pitch this October, when São Paulo host Palmeiras in a local derby. While it’s unclear whether Sosa can relaunch his career with Palmeiras, the early signs suggest he’s relishing the challenge. After struggling for consistent opportunities at Forest, Sosa will be looking to rediscover his form with his new club.
