Everton eye move for Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer ahead of summer window

Everton could be in a position to sign Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer during the upcoming transfer window.

The Toffees secured a 13th-place finish in the Premier League this season, wrapping up their campaign with a victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on 25 May.

This marked Everton’s highest league finish in four years. With momentum building, The Friedkin Group (TFG) must now support manager David Moyes in the summer market to continue the club’s upward trajectory.

Hamer has been linked with a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium following Sheffield United’s failure to earn promotion. A departure now seems likely for the midfielder.

Hamer exit expected after Everton interest

According to Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie, Hamer’s departure from the Blades appears inevitable following their play-off final loss to Sunderland at Wembley on 24 May. Hendrie believes the 27-year-old will be snapped up this summer, with Everton among the clubs showing interest.

Speaking to Football League World (30 May), Hendrie said:
“If they could keep [Hamer], it would be fantastic for the football club, but I think he will go in the summer. I think someone will prise him from Sheffield United.

“That’s the issue when you don’t get promoted. They’ve got some excellent players and have recruited well in recent years, but Championship football for another season makes it hard to hold onto talent.

“Hamer has been brilliant for them, but I think we’ve seen his last game in a Blades shirt.”

Hamer featured in 41 Championship matches this season, recording seven goals and nine assists, with an additional appearance in the play-offs.

Moyes planning midfield reinforcements

Everton are expected to strengthen their midfield, especially with Abdoulaye Doucoure unavailable at the start of next season. Idrissa Gueye is also tipped to depart due to his expiring contract.

James Garner has been a consistent presence in midfield this season, and fans will hope his fitness issues are behind him. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has completed a permanent move following his initial loan from Flamengo in January.

Harrison Armstrong is also set to return from Derby County, and Moyes may look to give the young talent more opportunities.

Since Moyes’ arrival, Everton have shown signs of revival, and expectations are growing. Supporters will want to see the team push for domestic cup success next season after early exits from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

To compete on all fronts, squad depth will be vital—and Hamer could be a smart addition to bolster the midfield.
